Doctor Samui offers confidential walk-in STD testing in Chaweng, Koh Samui, with no appointment needed. We test for HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis B and C, and more. Most results come back within 24 to 48 hours. Same-day treatment is available if you test positive. Hotel and villa visits are available across the island for patients who prefer in-room testing.
You had a great night in Chaweng. Now it is the morning after, and you are sitting on your hotel balcony wondering whether you should get tested. Whether it was unprotected sex, a condom that broke, or simply a trip that went further than planned, the answer is the same: get tested. It is easier here than you probably think.
We see this every week at Doctor Samui. Tourists, long-stay expats, divers, honeymooners, people flying home in three days who need results before they land. No one needs to know why you are here. You walk in, we run the tests, you get your results. Judgement has no place in a clinic, and it has no place in ours.

Who Gets a Walk-In STD Test Here
A lot of different people come through the door for sexual health screening. Some are backpackers who had a one-night stand and want peace of mind before flying home. Some are honeymooners who want to start a new chapter with a clean result. Some are long-stay expats who treat annual screening the same way they treat a dental check-up: routine, not dramatic.
Divers are a group we see regularly too. Dive trips often involve close-knit groups, long nights in Chaweng or Bang Rak, and a social scene that can move fast. Many divers who live here year-round treat STI screening the same way they treat their dive medicals.
If you are a long-stay resident, you already know that expat sexual health on Koh Samui is not something most island clinics discuss openly. We do. Come in, ask your questions, and we will give you straight answers.
Which STD Tests Are Right For You and When To Take Them
The most common question is: "Can I test today?" The answer depends on when the exposure happened, because every infection has a window period — a gap between exposure and when a test can actually detect it.
For chlamydia and gonorrhea, a PCR urine test can pick up infection as early as one to two days after exposure. For syphilis, a blood test is usually reliable from around three to six weeks after exposure. For hepatitis B and C, we generally test from six to eight weeks onward.
HIV is the one people worry about most. A 4th-generation HIV test checks for both the virus and your antibody response. It can detect infection from around 18 days after exposure and gives a reliable result by 45 days. A negative result before that window closes does not fully rule it out, so a follow-up test is needed.
If you are not sure of your timing, come in anyway. We will talk you through what makes sense to test now and what to repeat later. Testing too early and getting a false negative is worse than waiting a few more days.
| Infection | Test Type | Earliest Reliable Test |
|---|---|---|
| Chlamydia | PCR urine or swab | 1–2 days post-exposure |
| Gonorrhea | PCR urine or swab | 1–2 days post-exposure |
| Syphilis | Blood test | 3–6 weeks post-exposure |
| HIV | 4th-generation blood test | 18–45 days post-exposure |
| Hepatitis B | Blood test | 6–8 weeks post-exposure |
| Hepatitis C | Blood test | 6–8 weeks post-exposure |
| Herpes (HSV) | Swab of active sore | During active outbreak |

What To Do If You Need Urgent Help — PEP and PrEP
If you had potential HIV exposure in the last 72 hours — unprotected sex, a condom that split, any situation where transmission was possible — do not wait for a test result. Contact us now.
Post-exposure prophylaxis, or PEP, is a 28-day course of antiretroviral medication. Strong evidence shows it significantly reduces the risk of HIV infection when started quickly. Every hour matters. The 72-hour cutoff is real, and starting at hour 71 is better than not starting at all.
If you have repeated potential exposures, pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, is a daily tablet that greatly reduces your risk of getting HIV. We can assess you for PrEP during your walk-in visit and prescribe it the same day if appropriate.
For urgent PEP, call or WhatsApp us immediately. Do not spend an hour searching online first. Time is the variable here, and you do not have much of it.
How Doctor Samui’s Walk-In STD Testing Works
Walk in to our clinic in Chaweng. No appointment, no referral letter. You arrive, you see a doctor privately, we talk through what happened and what you need. Then we take a blood sample, a urine sample, or a swab depending on the test. Rapid test results come back in 20 to 30 minutes. PCR and blood panel results typically take 24 to 48 hours, sent to you by email or WhatsApp.
If you cannot come to the clinic, or would rather not, we offer hotel and villa visits across Koh Samui. That includes Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut, Maenam, Choeng Mon, and everywhere in between. A doctor comes to you, conducts the consultation privately in your room, takes your samples, and handles everything from there. You can find out more about our confidential STD testing service in Koh Samui on our sexual health page.
For tourists flying home in a few days, tell us your departure date when you arrive or when you WhatsApp. We will work to get results back before you leave and send them directly to you, wherever you are.
What To Bring and How To Prepare
Bring your passport. Thai law requires it for clinic registration, but your information stays within our clinic. It is not shared with immigration, your insurer, your employer, or anyone else.
For a urine-based chlamydia or gonorrhea test, do not urinate for at least one hour before your visit. This gives a more accurate sample. If you have already been to the bathroom just before arriving, tell us and we will advise on timing.
You do not need to prepare for blood tests. If you have symptoms — unusual discharge, sores, burning when urinating, or a rash — note when they started. That history helps us decide which tests to prioritise.
What Happens If Your Result Is Positive
A positive result is not a disaster. It is information, and information is what allows us to treat you.
Bacterial STIs — chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis — are treated with antibiotics, and we can start the same day your result comes back. If there is a strong clinical reason to act before the lab confirms, we will often begin treatment early, especially if you are flying home soon.
Viral infections such as herpes and hepatitis require ongoing management rather than a single cure. Antivirals reduce symptoms, shorten outbreaks, and in the case of herpes, lower the risk of passing it to a partner. We will explain everything clearly and prescribe what you need before you leave.
If you need a medical letter for travel insurance or for your doctor back home, we issue one covering your diagnosis, treatment, and any follow-up required. You can also access ongoing sexual health support at our Chaweng clinic if you are an expat who needs continuity of care. You are not left alone with a result.
